Dual Propeller Thrust Test Rig
This dual propeller thrust test rig was developed to investigate the effects of overlapping propellers on propulsion performance. It was successfully used to characterize the effect of axial and lateral propeller overlap on propulsion efficiency. This information was then used in the optimization of the propulsion system and overall layout of Kite, a high performance VTOL UAV.
Key Features:
Supports dual motor setup with rapid lateral and axial position adjustment capability
Measures current, voltage, thrust, RPM and temperature
Dual channel power monitoring
Computer data logging in addition to easy to use built-in controls
Project Details:
Fast turnaround project completed in two weeks
Designed in SolidWorks using frame generator tools
Fabrication and electrical work was carried out myself using in-house capabilities
Coded in Arduino
Complete setup, shown configured with 50% lateral propeller overlap
Electrical layout, makes use of off the shelf modules for rapid development
